About Cajun Spice Mix

Cajun Spice Mix is a vegan and gluten-free mix made with 7 different spices. It is also known as Bayou Blast Seasoning. Cajun seasoning is spicy, savory, and zesty and comes together in under 5 minutes using basic ingredients. This flavorful homemade cajun spice mix is handy to make various dishes and perk them up quickly. This versatile seasoning keeps good for a long time, too. Cajun Spice Mix hails from Louisiana, the home of Cajun cuisine, and it adds a Southern touch to anything it’s added to. Each household has its proportion to make this spicy blend, and in this post, I am sharing the recipe I have been using for years.

Why Make Cajun Seasoning At Home

Cajun seasoning is readily available in the market, but I prefer making it at home. Here are some of the reasons.

Usage Ideas

This is a very versatile DIY spice mix. Here are some of the ideas where you can use this homemade Seasoning: You can adjust the quantity of these spice powders according to your taste. If you like spicy, you can increase the amount of cayenne powder and paprika powder.

1 tablespoon garlic powder 1 tablespoon onion powder 1 teaspoon salt 2 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper 2 teaspoon dried oregano 2 teaspoon dried thyme 2 teaspoon cayenne pepper 2 tablespoon smoked paprika

Mix everything well and store it in a glass jar for 6 months at room temperature. I love to marinate meat in this spice mix and sprinkle it a little while grilling fish. Grilled Cajun Chicken is one of my favorite ways to include chicken in my diet. I add it to Spicy Lemon Garlic Baked Tilapia, Baked Basa, Creamy Amish Chicken, or Pesto Cream Cheese Chicken. You can also use it over Spicy Air Fryer Frozen Broccoli, Air Fryer Zucchini, or Melting Potatoes to spice them up. Add it to sides like Creamed Corn Casserole or Garlic Butter Shrimp. It is a must-add spice in dishes like Gumbo, Jambalaya, and other Louisiana-style dishes. Add it to Greek yogurt or mayonnaise; a quick dip is ready to serve with nachos. Sprinkle cajun powder over your salads for a spicy kick.
This seasoning is also delicious on pasta. Make a white sauce and sprinkle it generously with this seasoning for a perked-up taste. It can be added to my Jambalaya Pasta, Instant Pot Chicken Broccoli Pasta, Chicken Florentine Pasta, Chicken Penne Alla Vodka Pasta, or White Sauce Pasta. Add it to your soup, stews, or curries. Use it in my Instant Pot Chicken Stew or Creamy Chicken Sweet Potato Soup recipes. A popular barbeque chain in India, Barbeque Nation, makes amazing Cajun Potatoes. The potatoes are roasted with a sprinkle of this seasoning and then coated in a delicious Mayonnaise-based sauce.
